Each and every student of Vision International School is given the opportunity to appreciate the culture of their country through various school activities. One such event is the celebration of Mahalaya. The arrival of Mahisasuramardini was celebrated this year on 21st September, in the morning assembly.
The program begun with a beautiful rendition of a Bengali poem “Amar Durga” by the renowned elocutionist Bratati Bandopadhyay. The poem glorified the indomitable spirit of women and their active participation in all spheres of life. The next event was a Bengali song “ Chhuti” performed by the school choir. This was followed by the main program – “Mahisasuramardini”, where students depicted different forms of Durga through their dance performances. Throughout this program one of our most talented students, Shubhagata Chowdhury, enthralled the audience through his mesmerising rendition of “Chandipath” – a Hindu religious text that glorifies the supreme power of the goddess. This event ended with the defeat of the ‘Asura’, the evil, in the hands of Maa Durga. The whole program finally ended with the students and the teachers enjoying themselves to the rhythmic beat of the ‘dhak – the traditional Indian drum’.
