INTER – HOUSE VOCABULARY CONTEST
Every year the teachers of VIS strive to add something new to the existing string of events in the school calendar to motivate the students to take a plunge into new areas of learning.
One such innovative and exciting addition this year was the Inter- house Vocabulary Contest (for classes 8 to 12). The event was held on 25th October. Each of the four houses were represented by four participants. The whole program was conducted by the Head of Department of English
Ms. Jayati Debnath. The contest was conducted in nine rounds, each round catering to a different category. Some of these exciting categories were synonyms & antonyms, replacing a phrase with a word, analogies, comprehending the meaning of a word from a given extract, audio and visual rounds. The event not only tested the participants on the vocabulary skills but also judged their power of comprehension and reasoning. Every round was followed by an ‘an audience round’ whereby the non-participants and teachers were allowed to answer and add points to their respective houses.
At the end of the contest, Sigma House emerged as the winners, followed by Alpha and Kappa in the 2nd and 3rd position respectively. The program ended with a short speech by our respected Ma’am Chattopadhyay, Mentor for the English department of our school, where she emphasized on how children could benefit from the wonderful learning experience that they were exposed to through this event.
