INTER HOUSE DEBATE COMPETITION
One of the most anticipated events in the school calendar of VIS is the Inter-House Debate Competition. The art of debating improves higher order thinking skills in children and also augments their ability to structure and organize their thoughts.
The Inter House Debate Competition for the seniors for this academic session was held in two phases. There were two participants from each of the four houses, one speaking for the motion and the other speaking against the motion. The topics for the first round of this competition was – ‘Parents are always right’. The two teams who made it to the final round were Alpha House and Kappa House. Harshita Kadel of Kappa House was declared the best speaker. The final round of this competition was held on the 8th of August. There were four participants from each of the contesting teams and the topic given to the team was – ‘Every youngster should compulsorily serve in the army once in their life time.’ While the participants of Kappa House placed their views for the motion, the participants of Alpha House placed their arguments against the motion. The participants also tackled questions targeted at them from the audience with considerable skill and confidence. Finally, it was Alpha house who emerged victorious and Simran Singh of Alpha House was adjudged the best speaker.
The Inter-House Debate Competition for the juniors was held on 13 th August. There were two participants from each of the four houses, one speaking for and the other against the motion .The topic was – ‘School final exams can never be stress free ‘. The junior participants established their views and encountered questions from the contestants of other houses quite convincingly with ease and poise. At the end of the debate Alpha House was declared as the winning House followed by Kappa House in the second position. Swastika Majumdar of Alpha House was adjudged the best speaker. The other participants were also complimented on their sincere efforts.
